A chaotic scene unfolded at Roosevelt Field Mall in Rockville Centre on Friday night when Christopher Santana, 22, from Rockville Centre, was arrested following a disturbance. According to Nassau County police, the incident began around 6:20 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a fight causing panic at the mall, leading to crowds evacuating the shopping center.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Santana attempting to re-enter the mall while carrying several bricks. As they attempted to detain him, Santana reportedly became aggressive, spitting at and biting an officer on the hand. This led to his immediate arrest on charges including second-degree assault for the attack on the police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (referring to the bricks), and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
Santana is scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday at Nassau County District Court in Hempstead. No other individuals were arrested in connection with this specific incident, which has raised concerns about public safety and the response to disturbances in large public spaces like malls during peak shopping times.
