AZUSA, CALIFORNIA – In a heart-wrenching incident, 17-year-old Angelina Camillia Gonzales, a beloved high school cheerleader, was stabbed to death at her ex-boyfriend’s home late Friday night, following a cheerleading banquet. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning for a young life filled with promise.
Gonzales was reported missing after she did not return home and failed to respond to her family’s messages. Her stepfather, R. Caraballo, used a cell phone tracker to locate her, only to find the house surrounded by police and crime scene tape. “Hey, my daughter’s in there. You know, my daughter is in there. I’m trying to find her. She’s not home,” Caraballo implored to the officers on the scene, who advised him to wait due to the ongoing investigation.
The local police had responded to the home around 10 p.m., where they found Gonzales with multiple stab wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. His identity remains undisclosed.
The family had previously voiced concerns about Gonzales’ relationship with her ex, with Caraballo admitting he had warned her to stay away from him multiple times.
Gonzales was remembered by her family and friends as a vibrant, loving individual whose presence was marked by humor and kindness. Her brother, R. Torress, described her as someone whose sweetness made her demise even more unfathomable. Beyond cheerleading, she had shown remarkable talent in wrestling, having won her first match, and was an accomplished artist, with her work earning first place at the Congressional Art Competition and now displayed in the U.S. Capitol.
In the wake of this tragedy, Gonzales’ mother, L. Caraballo, created a GoFundMe to manage the costs of memorial and funeral arrangements. The family’s post on the page conveys their profound loss: “She had such a great future ahead of her. She had a heart of gold. She was my perfect gorgeous Angel baby. I don’t even have the words to say. I can’t even cope. I need her.”
The community is rallying to support the family, organizing events like a car wash and bake sale to raise funds. Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office is actively seeking more information to aid their investigation, encouraging anyone with details to come forward.
This tragic event underscores the dangers of potentially abusive relationships, leaving a community to mourn a bright young soul while hoping for justice. As legal proceedings move forward, the focus remains on celebrating Angelina Gonzales’ life, her talents, and the indelible mark she left on all who knew her.
