Chicago, IL – An American Airlines flight en route to Las Vegas was forced to return to Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Sunday morning following a midair emergency.
Flight AA1047, operated by a Boeing 737-800, departed from O’Hare shortly after 8 a.m. local time but was diverted back to its origin after the crew received multiple door warning indications, according to data from FlightRadar24.
The flight landed safely at O’Hare by 10 a.m., where it was met by maintenance crews. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.
American Airlines confirmed the incident, describing it as a “possible maintenance issue.” In a statement to media outlets, an airline spokesperson said, “Flight 1047 returned to ORD for a possible maintenance issue. The flight landed safely and taxied to the gate.”
After resolving the issue, the flight departed O’Hare once again just after noon and was expected to arrive at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas around 2 p.m. local time, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
It remains unclear what triggered the door warning indications, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and is expected to review the incident. The Boeing 737-800 is a mainstay of American Airlines’ fleet, and such warnings, though rare, are typically addressed through thorough maintenance and investigation.
American Airlines apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that safety remains the airline’s top priority.
