Snake Hiding in the Bed Bit the Woman Who Feathered the Pillows

A woman was left in shock after an unexpected encounter with a snake hiding in her bed, which bit her as she adjusted her pillows. The incident, described as both startling and bizarre, occurred on in her home in.

The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said she had been fluffing the pillows on her bed when she felt a sudden sharp pain on her hand. “I didn’t know what had happened at first. I looked down and saw the snake,” she said. “It left a teeth mark right on my finger.”

The intruder was identified as a non-venomous rat snake, common in the region but rarely encountered in such close quarters. Local wildlife officials believe the snake may have entered the home through a small opening or gap in search of food or shelter.

A Shocking Discovery
The woman described the moment as terrifying. “I screamed and jumped back. I’ve never seen a snake in my house before, let alone in my bed,” she said. Fortunately, the bite caused only minor injuries, as rat snakes are not venomous and typically pose little threat to humans.

Local animal control responded to the call and safely removed the snake from the residence. Officials confirmed it was about four feet long and in good health. “Rat snakes are excellent climbers and can often end up in surprising places,” said. “While their presence can be unnerving, they play a valuable role in controlling rodent populations.”

A Reminder to Stay Vigilant
Wildlife experts encourage homeowners to check their homes for potential entry points, particularly as temperatures fluctuate and animals seek shelter indoors.

“This is a good reminder to inspect windows, doors, and vents for openings that animals might use,” said, a local wildlife expert. “Snakes are shy creatures, but like all animals, they’re just looking for food and warmth.”

While the woman has recovered from her unexpected bite, she says she’ll be double-checking her bedding for the foreseeable future.

“I don’t think I’ll ever fluff a pillow again without looking first,” she said with a nervous laugh.

About Rat Snakes

While their appearance can be alarming, they are generally harmless to humans and help control pest populations.
