11-Year-Old Girl Miraculously Survived at Sea for 3 Days
Manila, Philippines – In a story of extraordinary courage and survival, an 11-year-old girl was rescued after drifting at sea for three days, clinging to a tire’s inner tube. The girl, identified as Maria Reyes, was found exhausted but alive by a passing fishing vessel off the coast of Palawan, Philippines.
According to local officials, Maria had been swept away by strong currents after playing near the shore. The incident occurred during a sudden change in weather, which caused rough waves to pull her further out to sea. Alone and unable to swim back, Maria grabbed onto a nearby tire inner tube—a decision that ultimately saved her life.
A Remarkable Rescue
Fishermen aboard a local boat spotted Maria drifting approximately 100 kilometers from the shore on the third day. “We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. There she was, holding on tightly to the tire, waving for help,” said fisherman Raul Dela Cruz, one of Maria’s rescuers.
The rescuers immediately pulled her aboard, providing food, water, and clothing before bringing her back to shore. Doctors confirmed that Maria was dehydrated and weak but in stable condition.
Maria’s Fight for Survival
In an interview from her hospital bed, Maria recounted her harrowing experience. “I was so scared, but I prayed and held onto the tire as tightly as I could. I thought of my family, and it gave me the strength to keep going,” she said.
She survived by occasionally drinking rainwater and shielding herself from the sun as much as possible. “I just kept hoping someone would find me,” she added.
Community and Family Celebrate Survival
Maria’s survival has been hailed as nothing short of a miracle. Her family, who had feared the worst, broke into tears of relief upon her rescue. “We never gave up hope,” said Maria’s mother, embracing her daughter. “She’s so brave, and we are so thankful to everyone who helped bring her back.”
The local community has rallied around the family, with officials calling Maria’s story an inspiration of hope and resilience.
Authorities have since urged families and beachgoers to take extra precautions, particularly during unpredictable weather. “This incident reminds us of the power of nature and the importance of safety, especially for children playing near water,” said Palawan Coast Guard Commander Jaime Cruz.
Maria’s incredible survival serves as both a miracle and a lesson in human determination—one that will not soon be forgotten.
